Steps to Apply for an EHCP (Education, Health, and Care Plan) for Your Child

Steps to Apply for an EHCP (Education, Health, and Care Plan) for Your Child

To apply for an EHCP in Birmingham through SENAR, start by discussing your child’s needs with their school’s SENCO and ensuring they have a SEN Support Plan in place. You, the school, or a professional can request an EHC Needs Assessment by submitting an application form, along with evidence (school reports, medical assessments, etc.), to SENAR via email or the Birmingham Local Offer website. SENAR will decide within 6 weeks whether to assess, and if approved, complete the process within 20 weeks, issuing a final EHCP outlining your child’s needs, support, and placement. You can review and request changes to the draft EHCP, and once finalized, the plan will be reviewed annually to ensure it meets your child’s needs.
